Sonya Sklaroff

Sonya Sklaroff is a New York City based painter whose work captures the vibrancy of everyday life, from city streets and rooftops to gardens and intimate portraits. Over three decades, she has developed a distinctive visual language defined by bold color, expressive brushwork, and imaginative compositions that reveal emotion, humor, and humanity in often-overlooked moments.
Sklaroff earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Parsons School of Design. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is included in major public and private collections. Among her honors are the Anonymous Was a Woman Award and a residency with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s World Views Project at the World Trade Center. She has published several monographs, including Pandemic Paintings and Escape to the Garden. Recent solo exhibitions include Secrets of New York at the Algonquin’s Oak Room and NoHo Art Nexus: Outside In, a month-long public transformation of NoHo into an art gallery.
